MENTAL FITNESS & SUCCESS

"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude."-----Thomas Jefferson

We all understand the value of physical fitness in life. But how many of us are concerned with our mental fitness?

Mental fitness is an important factor in achieving success.

Being mentally fit requires the use of some techniques. One such technique is that of positive talk or the use of positive affirmations.

The way you talk to yourself has a huge impact on your thinking and feeling. Many researchers have discovered that high performing men and women talk to themselves differently than low performing men and women.

The starting point of using positive self talk is to interpret everything that happens to you in a favorable way.  Become what W. Clement Stone calls an “inverse paranoid.”  Imagine that the whole world is a giant conspiracy to help you be successful. If you truly had that attitude, what couldn't you accomplish?!

Perseverance

Perseverance is working toward your goals, no matter what comes along to discourage you.  Perseverance is going that last mile, even though you are so tired that you have a hard time keeping your head up—but you do, and you make it.  Perseverance is continuing on, even when your friends tell you there is no chance you will make it—but you know you can, and you do.

Do you remember the popular movie, “Rocky,” that starred Sylvester Stallone? That story is a great example of the power of persistence on the road to success.
At one point in the film, Rocky says:
“It ain't about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, and how much you can take, and keep moving forward.”
Well said, Mr. Balboa!

Personal Power

The depth of  your belief and the strength of  your conviction determine your personal power.  If you really believed in your ability to succeed, you would become unstoppable.  You can develop this kind of belief, this inner confidence, by developing what is called the Four C's.

Clarity.  Knowing exactly what it is that you want and exactly the type of person you wish to become.

Conviction.  Absolutely believing you have the ability to do anything you put your mind to.

Commitment.
The strength to make whatever efforts are necessary.

Consistency.  The depth of character to say and do certain things in a certain way every single day, until you achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Inspirational author Norman Vincent Peale said:

If you expect the best, you will be the best. Learn to use one of the most powerful laws in this world; change your mental habits to belief instead of disbelief. Learn to expect, not to doubt. In so doing, you bring everything into the realm of possibility.

Let that inspire you as you travel your path to real happiness and enormous personal success!

Unstoppable Self-Confidence

Crystallizing the following four skills and emotions into your nervous system will give you unstoppable self-confidence.

Desire.  The intensity of your desire to have unstoppable self-confidence must be so strong that it overrides your fears of failure, rejection and inferiority, and becomes to the dominant emotion influencing your actions.

Decisiveness.
You must make a “do or die” decision that you will go to work on yourself and keep at it until you achieve the kind of self-confidence that allows you to do and be whatever you want.

Determination.  Your  determination must be as unshakable as the self-confidence you desire. Others will tell you there is no hope.  Because you are committed to your goals, you know you must persist.  You have faith in yourself, and you know that your determination will lead to you becoming the person you wish to be.

Discipline.
The foundation of all great achievement is the quality of self-discipline.  This is the ability to make yourself do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.  If you have the desire to change, the decisiveness to take action, the determination to persist, and the discipline to make yourself do whatever you need to do, your self-confidence – and ultimately your success – is inevitable.

Self-confidence is crucial to success.

Jared L. Davis, who writes the blog “Thoughts for a Better Life” says:

“Make the decision, make it with confidence, and the world will be yours.”

So, what world do you want to conquer today?

Gratitude

American author and motivational speaker Denis Waitley wrote:

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

I believe that True Wealth is built on a foundation of gratitude.

Being grateful is giving thanks to other people and being grateful for what you have right now.  Take time to thank all the people who help you get to where you're going.  Take a few minutes and make a list of the activities, the resources, and the people in your life that you are most grateful for.  This list is great to look at whenever you are feeling less resourceful.  It will boost your frame of mind.

We all have to admit that we have been guilty of taking what we have right now for granted.  It is easy to get fixated on what we hope to have next year that we forget to appreciate or use whatever we have.

To prevent this from happening, we need to start expressing our gratitude on a daily basis.

Remember, an attitude of gratitude will give you the altitude to soar to the heights of success!

Mental Discipline

Olympic athlete Jessie Owens said:

“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.”

Mental discipline is the type of self-discipline you need to cultivate in order to be successful.

Acquiring the mental discipline to set your goals, prioritize them and decide on your purpose in life is the starting point of individual greatness and happiness.  Single-minded concentration in the direction of your dream will intensify your desire and increase your momentum towards your goal.

This intensity of concentration will activate the law of attraction and will begin to attract people and opportunities into your life that are in harmony with your goal.

The more you think about it, the more it will dominate your life and the more rapidly you will move toward it – and it toward you.

Write It Down

Remember, anything you can clearly define and crystallize on paper is possible.  You must be willing to make whatever sacrifices and efforts are necessary.  The very act of writing your goals down sets the whole universe to work for you and activates all mental laws.  In fact, the art of writing down challenging goals causes three things to happen.

Your self confidence goes up immediately.  Having the courage to write down what you really want enhances your self-image and your self-esteem.  The action itself generates a feeling of greater personal power and ability.

Goal setting actually gives you a burst of physical and mental energy.  Your heart rate speeds up!!!  It's exciting.

The very fact that you have committed the goals to paper dramatically increases the likelihood that you will achieve those goals.  You cannot define a goal without simultaneously having the ability to attain it.  The most important question is how badly do you want it? What is your compelling reason?

American Statesman Benjamin Franklin wrote this humorous line:

If you would not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten
either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing.

Think about that when you are writing down your goals. What worthy things do you want to accomplish?

The Rich Effect

In addition to the spending cash you normally have with you, start carrying at least one, if not two, one hundred dollar bills with you all the time. This will give you the security of knowing that you always have money with you, and it will also give you what I like to call the rich effect. Subconsciously, you will feel more at ease and more comfortable knowing that you have cash with you “in case of an emergency.”

This habit also helps develop a prosperity consciousness, and you will attract more wealth into your life. It is a universal law that “like attracts like.” When you are comfortable seeing and handling larger amounts of cash, more will come your way.

Actress Mae West once made this witty remark:

I've been rich and I've been poor... Believe me, rich is better!”

Do you agree? And if so, what will you do to create your own rich effect?

Comfort Zone

If the greatest enemy of self-confidence is fear, then the great enemy of human achievement is the comfort zone. Psychologists have found that each of us has a tendency to have this zone of behavior or performance where we are comfortable; where it is easy and unchallenging to stay there. We stop striving, we relax, and day-by-day, we develop the habits that lead to underachievement – and ultimately – failure.

The tragedy of staying in the comfort zone is eventually we will miss our golden opportunities and deeply regret it.

American philosopher and writer Mark Twain said:

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Fear

Fear is the great enemy of self-confidence. Fear has always been the greatest enemy of mankind in many ways. It is fear that holds us back more than any other factor. It affects our subconscious mind and sabotages our intentions. I have heard so many people say I could never do that. I would never try that because I would be so afraid that I would fail and look stupid. I would feel so badly if I failed, I couldn't stand it. Nobody wants to look or feel stupid or incompetent, but – trying something and not achieving what you intended is just another way of practicing.

To keep fear away, we must practice positive self-talk. Tell yourself you are fearless, and successful and you will be!

Philosopher Lao Tsu said:

Be careful what you water your dreams with. Water them with worry and fear and you will produce weeds that choke the life from your dream. Water them with optimism and solutions and you will cultivate success.”

Formula For Success

Success is not an accident. The difference between the people who produce positive results and those who don't is that successful people follow consistent, logical patterns that are specific pathways to excellence.

I began to study succesful people to see if they had a common formula for success, and I discovered that they do. They all seem to know their outcome. They have a goal, and they know why they're doing what they're doing. They have a reason, almost an obsession, for making their goal happen. They have an ability to take action.

If you know what you want and don't do anything about it, then it is just a dream. It will never be a reality. Action is the only thing that translates dreams into reality. Those who can get themselves to consistently take action will absolutely dominate the field of success.

Film maker Cecil B. DeMille said:

The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. That is dedication.”

So ask yourself, “How strong is my dedication to achieve real happiness and enormous success, and what unswerving action can I take to succeed in my goals?”

Three Habits To Propel You To Greatness

American football coach Vince Lombardi once said:

Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

His words are so very true! The best effort you can make, with the greatest payoff, is to invest in your own development.

Here are three great areas to focus on:

  1. Invest 3 percent of your income back into yourself. Spend that 3 percent on personal “research and development” and on upgrading your skills. If you invest 3 percent back into yourself, you will never have to worry about money again. Never become complacent about this, even as you begin to attain success. If you do, you will find yourself slipping backward.

  2. Read for one hour each day in your chosen field. Take careful notes you can review regularly. Highlight or underline important points, then go back and transfer all those points into a spiral notebook or an iPad. You will then have a synopsis of important ideas you can read until you memorize them. This method is used by some of the most successful men and women in the world.

  3. Listen to CDs in your car. Turn your car into a “university on wheels.” Always have educational and motivational CDs playing. You spend between 500 and 1,000 hours each year in your car. If you turn that driving time into learning time, you can become one of the best-educated people of your generation.

Beliefs

In the most basic sense, a belief is any guiding principle, faith, or passion that can find great meaning in life. Unlimited stimuli are available to us. Beliefs are the pre-arranged, organized filters for our perceptions of the world. When we believe something is true, it is like delivering a command to our brain on how to represent what is occurring.

John Stewart Mill, the English philosopher, once wrote, “One person with a belief is a social power equal to ninety-nine who have only interests.” That is precisely beliefs open the door to excellence.

Beliefs deliver a direct command to your nervous system. When you know something is true, you go into the state of it being true. Handled effectively, beliefs can be the most powerful forces for creating good in our lives.

Remember, whether you say you can or can't do something, you are right. Both kinds of beliefs have great power. The question is, what kinds of beliefs are best to have, and how do we develop them? I believe the birth of excellence really begins with our awareness that beliefs are a choice.

Norman Vincent Peale once said:
"Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."
That is some great advice to follow...
